Here I am again guessing scores for shows I have not yet seen. I still have not posted Fall’s results, but will do so eventually (as in, once I finish the two shows I have left for it). This season marks the first time in four years that I will not be watching (and finishing) everything that is airing, but I will still try all those that I list below. I am using LiveChart as a reference.

  • 3D Kanojo: Real Girl. I do not know why, but I am actually looking forward to this one even though it looks completely generic. It looked like a shounen romance, but it is actually a shoujo series, which should be for the better. 7/10.
  • Aggressive Retsuko (ONA). I do not actually know if Netflix is going to be rehashing episodes of the currently airing Retsuko series or if they are going to make new ones. Hopefully the latter, but I am a fan of the original so I know what to expect either way. 6/10.
  • Aikatsu Friends! I thought Aikatsu! and Aikatsu! Stars were average overall, so I expect the same from this series. Hopefully more like the original and less like Stars. 5/10.
  • Akkun to Kanojo. Looks like a lower budget Tsuredure Children. Cannot say I am too excited for it. 4/10.
  • Alice or Alice. The synopsis for this one is so stupid that I think it might just work. 6/10.
  • Amai Choubatsu: Watashi wa Kanshu Senyou Pet. Pretty sure this one is this season’s hentai-on-TV show. Not expecting much as a result. 3/10.
  • Amanchu! Advance. I thought the first Amanchu! was alright, so I expect more of the same from this one. 6/10.
  • Boku no Hero Academia 3rd Season. The series has only been getting worse, so hopefully this third season can redeem the latter half of the second season. 6/10.
  • Butlers: Chitose Momotose Monogatari. Yeah, this is a definite no-go. Me not being in the target audience coupled with a boring synopsis results in low expectations. 2/10.
  • Caligula. I feel that this will be the show that looks good, but has a terrible storyline. It is based on a game that received mediocre reviews, so I am getting Gunslinger Stratos flashbacks. 3/10.
  • Captain Tsubasa (2018). I actually just caught up with the subs for the original Captain Tsubasa a few weeks back and thought that it was average. I am expecting the remake to be the same, although it will certainly look better (being animated by David Productions and all). 5/10.
  • Cardfight!! Vanguard (2018). A bit surprised to see them rebooting the original Vanguard series. I thought that the original series (through season 3) was alright, but nothing special. Hopefully this reboot will be more of the old and less of the new Vanguard G stuff. 5/10.
  • Comic Girls. I read the manga for this up to a certain point before dropping it, but believe that it will work a whole lot better as an anime rather than a manga. Reading it gave me some New Game! vibes. 6/10.
  • Cutie Honey Universe. I watched all of the Cutie Honey series that have been subbed (which I believe is all of them except for Flash) and did not think it was anything special. Even so, I am expecting this one to be at least better than average, better than the older ones. 6/10.
  • Devil’s Line. Hopefully this does not end up being like Twilight, because it actually looks pretty good. Can’t say I have seen a vampire romance anime yet. 7/10.
  • Dorei-ku The Animation. Pretty sure this will be the edgiest show of the season. Being able to enslave anyone you meet? Yeah sure. 6/10.
  • Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory. Hopefully this is more like Fumoffu and less like the Second Raid. 7/10.
  • Fumikiri Jikan. This is going to be the comfiest short series, I just know it. 7/10.
  • Gegege no Kitarou. Pretty excited for this one because all of the original Kitarou series are not subbed and I have been wanting to get into the series. Hopefully this new one is just as good as the older ones. 7/10.
  • Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu: Die Neue These – Kaikou. Oh boy, there is absolutely no way this new one will be as well-received as the original series. I thought the original series was good, but not better than a 7, so I expect the same from this one. 7/10.
  • Golden Kamuy. I have heard that the manga for this one is excellent and the premise looks good enough for this one to be one of my most hyped series for this new season. 8/10.
  • Gundam Build Divers. I quite liked the first two Gundam Build Fighters series, but this one does not look like it will quite match that quality. 6/10.
  • Gurazeni. This is gonna be that one good sports series that nobody watches. Certainly does not help that it is animated by Studio DEEN, who brought us that abomination of a Junji Ito anime last season. 6/10.
  • High School DxD Hero. I am fine with the change of art style, but I hope that it is better than Season 3 story-wise, as I felt that season was the weakest of the bunch. 6/10.
  • Hinamatsuri. Calling it now, this will be the premiere comedy show of the season loved by all that watch it, but with very few actually watching it. 7/10.
  • Hisone to Masotan. This show is definitely a contender for anime of the season but I feel that it will bring with it a lot of debate, as it is written by Mari Okada. It just so happens that Mari Okada is one of my favorite writers in the industry. 9/10.
  • Hoozuki no Reitetsu 2nd Season Part II. This show is so immensely popular in Japan, but no one in the West has actually watched it. Expecting more of the same. 5/10.
  • Jikken-hin Kazoku: Creatures Family Days. I can always go for another monster girl anime and this seems to fit the bill perfectly. 6/10.
  • Juushinki Pandora. I really want to like this show, as it is a two-cour mecha and we have not been getting a lot of those lately, but I honestly do not expect this one to be any good. 4/10.
  • Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi. Just by looking at the key visual for this show and I can tell that no one will watch it, and for a good reason. 2/10.
  • Koneko no Chii Ponpora Dairyokou. Please please please be more like the original two Chii series (and the first half of the new CG series). I want more interactions with the family rather than Chii going out and playing with other cats. Those episodes started to drag later on in the third season. 7/10.
  • LadySpo. The synopsis for this one immediately killed any sort of expectations I may have had for it 3/10.
  • Last Period: Owarinaki Rasen no Monogatari. The visual for this show definitely does not help sell it, but I fully expect JC Staff to deliver here. 7/10.
  • Layton Mystery Tanteisha: Katri no Nazotoki File. So I did not really like the Layton movie all that much, but a long-form mystery show like this might suit the series better. 6/10.
  • Lost Song. There is not a whole lot of information regarding the staff of the series, but I am expecting a fun show regardless. 7/10.
  • Lostorage conflated WIXOSS. I really, really liked the original WIXOSS series (enough to give it a 9), but it has only gotten worse, especially once Lostorage started. 6/10.
  • Lupin the Third: Part 5. YEAH MORE LUPIN!!! WOOOOOOOOO. 8/10.
  • Mahou Shoujo Ore. Well I have already watched the first two episodes of this one and they were not all that great. Just average so far. 5/10.
  • Mahou Shoujo Site. This new trend of dark magical girls shows is definitely not slowing down here. 7/10.
  • Major 2nd. I gave every season of the original Major series an 8, it was excellent all the way through. I fully expect this new series to keep up that trend! 8/10.
  • Megalo Box. I just watched the original Ashita no Joe and its sequel a couple months back and they were great. Hopefully this anniversary project can keep what made the original good. 7/10.
  • Nil Admirari no Tenbin. Based on an otome game? Yup. Generic looking steampunk/historical setting? Yup. 2/10.
  • Nobunaga no Shinobi: Anegawa Ishiyama-hen. Last two seasons were average. Expecting more of the same. Might actually drop this one this time around. 5/10.
  • Omae wa Mada Gunma wo Shiranai. This just looks like a generic historical comedy that I will most likely drop after a couple episodes. 3/10.
  • Persona 5 the Animation. Well I have not played Persona 5 (or any of them for that matter), but I have heard good things about both the game and anime adaptations. 6/10.
  • Piano no Mori. The manga for this one is very high-ranked and seems to be right up my alley. Looking forward to it! 8/10.
  • Puzzle & Dragon. I did not like the previous Puzzle & Dragon anime, so I will probably give this one just a few episodes to see if it is any different. Not that I expect it to be different though. 3/10.
  • Rokuhoudou Yotsuiro Biyori. For some reason this show reminds me of Kabukibu!, which I did not like. The synopsis is rather dry as well. Hopefully it can prove me wrong, but I am not expecting much. 4/10.
  • Saredo Tsumibito wa Ryuu to Odoru. The key visuals look so good, but the synopsis just kills any sort of expectation. 3/10.
  • Shokugeki no Souma: San no Sara – Toutsuki Ressha-hen. Yeah, just more of the same here. Nothing much. 6/10.
  • Souten no Ken: Regenesis. I watched the original Fist of the Blue Sky a while back and did not like it. The CG in this one looks fine, but I do not expect a score difference between the two. 4/10.
  • Steins;Gate 0. AWWW YEAH!! Do not disappoint me! 9/10.
  • Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online. I absolutely love Sword Art Online, but this one just does not really appeal to me. The studio did produce Princess Principal though, so I retain some hope. 7/10.
  • Tachibana-kan to Lie Angle. It is a yuri comedy with short episodes. I do not see much to dislike about this. 7/10.
  • Tada-kun wa Koi wo Shinai. This looks like a pure romance show, akin to Tsukigakirei of a couple seasons back. Looking forward to it as a result. 8/10.
  • To Be Heroing. The first season was not all that great and I expect that trend to continue. 4/10.
  • Tokyo Ghoul:re. This is definitely one of the most hyped shows for this season amongst the community, but I did not like the first two seasons or the manga (which I read in its entirety). 4/10.
  • Uchuu Senkan Tiramisu. Was a bit disappointed to learn that this was a slice of life comedy, as I had expected a serious mecha show (which we need more of). Even so, it does look like it will be decent enough. 6/10.
  • Uma Musume: Pretty Derby. I actually have some of the character song albums for this series. That, combined with the fact that it is originally a mobile game, is giving me Battle Girl High School flashbacks. That is not a good thing. 3/10.
  • Waka Okami wa Shougakusei! A shoujo romance based on a children’s book sounds like it could be interesting (perhaps similar to 12-sai?), so I shall go in with light expectations. 6/10.
  • Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii. Caught up with the manga on this one. It is okay. 6/10.

Score counts:

  • 2/10 – 3
  • 3/10 – 7
  • 4/10 – 6
  • 5/10 – 6
  • 6/10 – 18
  • 7/10 – 14
  • 8/10 – 5
  • 9/10 – 2

This season is pretty much the most stacked season I have ever seen since I started watching airing anime back in Spring 2014. There are just so many high profile shows coming out. My scores look to be on the higher side this time around, so hopefully my predictions are correct!
