I have always been a fan of tycoon-style games like this, so something like Train Station Simulator is right up my alley. Unfortunately, the game is simply lacking in features as it currently stands, as well as having little direction.
I started with the game’s first campaign level, which seemed to be no different from a sandbox setting (although with limited cash). The game did not give me any sort of direction or goal. I was not even presented with a tutorial, but rather just plopped down and given the deadline of 60 days. Even after figuring out how to play the game and eventually maxing out my train station around day 30, I still did not know what my goal was for the 60 day deadline. Even without the goal, it only took about an hour and a half to max out my station and achieve five stars in all categories, so the game is lacking content in that regard.
The campaign does not make its goals clear and the game’s content can be cleared in very little time, a detrimental fault for tycoon-style games. Sure, the game is at least enjoyable for a little while, but I would definitely recommend waiting for the game to be updated a bit before buying. The developers have a lot of feature additions in mind (according to the Steam page) so I imagine that the game will be much better once those are implemented.
You can buy Train Station Simulator here on Steam.
I was provided a free review copy of the game. Read more about how I do my game reviews here.
