Since I’m yet again watching all the shows this Fall 2014 season, I thought I’d start doing a “Should You Watch It?” for each season I partake in. Totally did not steal this idea from r/anime.
The only show I’m not watching this season (excluding shows that are not available subbed or even raw) is Cardfight!! Vanguard G, because I have not watched the previous four seasons to the season.
Here’s the rankings that I will be using:
- Drop it – Not worth watching.
- Consider it – Consider watching it if you’re a fan of the genre or maybe when it is done airing.
- Watch it – A show that I deem “good” and should be enjoyed by most anime viewers out there.
- Must watch it – A show that is a “must watch” of the season.
Ai Tenchi Muyo!: Consider it – This show airs everyday and is supposed to be a homage to the Tenchi series, which I’ve yet to watch. Coming from someone that has not seen the Tenchi series, this show isn’t that enjoyable, but it isn’t entirely bad. Not a fan of the recap episodes either.
Akatsuki no Yona: Consider it – I’m not really a fan of shows set during whatever time period this may be, but it has enough drama to warrant a consideration.
Amagi Brilliant Park: Must watch it – Basically Roller coaster Tycoon the anime, which we’ve all wanted sometime in our life. Right?
Bonjour♪Koiaji Pâtisserie: Drop it – Coming from a fan of harems, this is one bad harem.
Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo: Watch it – A pretty cool mechs/dragons mashup with a bit of fanservice thrown into it. Also, the MC is awesome.
Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai: Watch it – A decent mystery story with a fantastic female lead, one of the best leads this season.
Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken: Watch it – A hilarious short-form anime. Each episode is a 3 minute comedy skit.
Denki-gai no Honya-san: Watch it – The best comedy this season in one of the weirdest locations, a bookstore. Despite this, it still manages to keep me laughing.
Donten ni Warau: Drop it – A boring story with boring characters. Oh, and the setting is not the best either.
Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works (TV): Watch it – It’s a Fate/stay night series. What more of a reason is required? In all seriousness, the animation budget on this guy is massive.
Garo: Honoo no Kokuin: Drop it – Although the show has some amazing CG, that alone can’t make up for the generic storyline.
Girlfriend (Kari): Watch it – Girls being girls. What I originally thought would be a gigantic harem actually turned out to be a girls making friends with other girls, which is just fine by me.
Grisaia no Kajitsu: Must watch it – Although many will flame this show for being a not-so-great adaptation of the VN. I for one, not having played the VN, thoroughly enjoy the show and its characters.
Gugure! Kokkuri-san: Consider it – A random and weird comedy show. All sorts of animal-human hybrids. It seems to be the Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun of this season.
Gundam Build Fighters Try: Consider it – Although this is set after the events of the original Gundam Build Fighters series, the characters and their stories are completely new and there isn’t much correlation between Try and the original series. I’d still recommend watching the first season beforehand, however.
Gundam: G no Reconguista: Drop it – Although I’ve never seen a legitimate Gundam series before, I know that this isn’t what it should be.
Hi☆sCoool! SeHa Girls: Consider it – Fan of the old SEGA? This anime seems to be a homage to that time with far too many references to count. It’s pretty entertaining for what it is.
Hitsugi no Chaika: Avenging Battle: Watch it – More Chaika? Yes, more Chaika.
Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de: Consider it – So Trigger made this anime about a ton of high school students who have super powers. It is okay.
Kaitou Joker: Drop it – Go watch Magic Kaito instead of this.
Karen Senki: Drop it – The CG in this show is fantastic, but the show itself is terrible. So sad.
Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu: Must watch it – A very entertaining story with a certain likable character. Might end up being the best this season.
Log Horizon 2nd Season: Watch it – It picks up where Log Horizon left off, and while it may not be as good as the original series, it still is pretty cool.
Madan no Ou to Vanadis: Consider it – A decent ecchi-romance story with a not-so-great art style. The setting isn’t all that great either.
Magic Kaito 1412: Watch it – Very cool detective show about everyone’s favorite Detective Conan villain. Doesn’t require any prior knowledge of the Detective Conan series either.
Mushishi Zoku Shou 2nd Season: Must watch it – I don’t know what you’re doing with your life if you haven’t already started watching this.
Nanatsu no Taizai: Watch it – Fan of shounen? This is probably for you. It’s also getting the full 24-episode treatment, so it should turn out quite nice.
Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji: Consider it – Not really entertaining, but may be for some. Also known as “Abusive Relationships: The Anime”
Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu: Must watch it – A fantastic series about a guy trying to save the world’s twintails from some weird bad guys. Also, gender bender.
Orenchi no Furo Jijou: Consider it – Not as great as the other short-form anime this season, but not enough to warrant a complete drop. It’s about a merman, if that interests you in the slightest.
Oshiri Kajiri Mushi 3: Consider it – A ridiculous comedy about bugs biting butts. Only worth your consideration if you liked the first two seasons.
Psycho-Pass 2: Must watch it – Even though it may not be as good as the first, it is the mystery show to watch this season.
Sanzoku no Musume Ronja: Drop it – Don’t let the fact that Studio Ghibli being listed as a producer fool you. The show doesn’t have the charm of the studio and the show itself was animated by Polygon Pictures, the guys who did Knights of Sidonia. The CG is great, but the show is so not worth it.
Selector Spread WIXOSS: Must watch it – The sequel to one of Spring’s best anime is finally here and it is epic. Please watch the original first, however.
Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso: Watch it – A fantastic romance with a musical cover to it.
Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis: Watch it – A very well-done action series, even if it is based on a terrible card game.
Shirobako: Watch it – Actually quite educational. Shows the process of creating anime and how it ends up as we see it. Oh, and a bit of drama here and there.
Sora no Method: Consider it – Cute girls and a not-so-cute story. It seems very similar to Anohana, but nowhere near as good.
Terra Formars: Drop it – This show has too much censoring to be worth your time. Even uncensored, the story isn’t that great and it is rather slow paced for a series adapting a manga that’s 10 or so volumes up.
Tribe Cool Crew: Consider it – If you’re into kids dancing and enjoying themselves, then give it a shot. If not, show it to your kids.
Trinity Seven: Drop it – Despite all the good things I hear about the manga, this is nothing more than a harem wrapped up in a terrible story.
Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete: Watch it – A fairly interesting drama that’s worth your time.
World Trigger: Consider it – I don’t understand where all the hate towards this series comes from, as the series isn’t necessarily bad. Although it isn’t that great either, it would be kind of fun to marathon later on.
Yowamushi Pedal: Grande Road: Must watch it – The sequel to one of the best sports anime ever created. Continues the high-intensity cycling of the first season.
Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru: Drop it – I don’t even know what’s going on here, but I know it is not good.
And there you have it. Complaints? I don’t wanna hear them. Also want to note that I don’t drop shows. Each and every one of these I will finish, even if it is the worst thing ever because I’m a masochist.
