Well, this was one of the more interesting titles I’ve played of late. Certainly one of the most humorous games I’ve played in my life, that’s for sure. There’s just so many things right about Jazzpunk.
Jazzpunk is a first-person comedy-adventure game set during the cold war, in an alternate reality. The game places large emphasis on open-world exploration, which can be seen immediately in the first level. I spent the majority of my time in the game exploring, rather than actually playing through the main story, although I did manage to beat the entire game in about two hours. The game’s length being my major complaint. For such a great game, I’d like more than just two hours.
Unique. If I had to use one word to describe Jazzpunk, that’d be it. The game is full of references, side quests, and plenty of areas to explore in the various chapters. I even helped clean a guy’s massive ear out when he was unable to hear. Just one of the silly things that can be accomplished within the several chapters. Oh, and the dialogue. Fantastic. Simply fantastic. A lot of the characters in-game spoke like robots and it seemed like there were new accents everywhere I went.
Jazzpunk is heavy on its comedic appeal. There are several instances in the game that serve no purpose other than to make you laugh. I ran into a shop at one point whose door simply said “closed for no reason”. There’s plenty of new things to find when exploring the worlds of each chapter, and, like I said, that’s where I had spent most of my playtime, looking around. It’s overwhelming at times, the amount of stuff that you can find whilst exploring.
The game uses an interesting art style. I want to say its cel-shaded, but I don’t know if that’d be correct. For the most part, it does look like its cel-shaded, which is always a art style. Nothing to complain about in terms of the game’s graphics.
If you’re going to pick up Jazzpunk, don’t expect much in terms of length if you just play through the game’s story. Instead, spend some time exploring about. You’ll find yourself laughing at the numerous scenes scattered throughout the game.
